The European Under-19 Football Championship continues in the Moravian-Silesian Region, where the home team entered Monday’s 0:3 defeat by France. On Thursday, our national team had a second match. This was a duel with the Spanish women, who managed to win against Italy 3: 1 in their opening performance.
Unlike the first match played in Vítkovice at 11:00 a.m., this time our players played in Opava at 5:30 p.m. They did not go into the clash with the opponents from the Iberian Peninsula as favourites either.
As expected, the Spanish team had the upper hand from the beginning, which they managed to take advantage of just before the refreshment break. In the 23rd minute, Ane Elexpuru sent a shot towards the right post from outside the box and beat goalkeeper Tereza Fuchs.
In the 37th minute, the Spaniards got into the Czech Republic penalty area and Fiamma scored the second goal. Moments later, Lloris headed and hit the bar. There was no further goal before the end of the first half and the players went into the locker room with a 0:2 scoreline.
A few tens of seconds after the change of sides, however, the score changed, as Clara Pineda got the ball in the penalty area after a corner kick and managed to score. Despite some hints from the Czech team, the Spanish were firmly in control of the game during the second 45 minutes.
In the 69th minute it was 0:4 after a shot from an angle under the crossbar by the far post from Lucie Moralová.
No more goals were scored until the end of the match. The Spaniards sent 36 shots throughout the game, the home players only one. The final score of 0::5 was also matched by a possession percentage of 21::79.
After the second defeat, the Czech national team has no chance to advance to the semi-finals. After two rounds, they are in fourth place in Group A, one point ahead of their opponents from Italy on Sunday. The Spaniards lead the standings with six points, with France in second place with four.
The Swedes are in first place in Group B with six points. England are second and Norway third, with both teams having won once. Germany closes the table with zero points. After the last group matches and the semi-final stage, the women’s U19 football EURO will culminate in a clash for the title on Saturday 9 July.
