Two stars leave Liverpool! One of them has become a club legend. I don’t know a player who is more loved, Klopp said
Two big names will leave Liverpool at the end of the season. One of them is Joël Matip, who spent eight years at Anfield and will leave as a legend. The other player is Thiago Alcantara, who will also end his involvement with the famous English club at the end of the current season.

There was already talk in Liverpool a few months ago that nothing would be the same after the departure of current manager Jürgen Klopp. In short, the club will be entering a new era, and this of course also applies to the composition of the squad.
The famous English club officially confirmed on Friday morning that two big names will leave the club at the end of this season. Joël Matip and Thiago Alcantara.
The latter arrived at the club in September 2020, specifically from Bayern Munich for 22 million euros. He started 98 competitive games for the Reds, but in terms of individual statistics, it was not nearly as glorious as before in Bavaria.
Thiago scored three goals during his time at Liverpool, assisting on six others. He did, however, help the team to win the FA Cup and the English League Cup.
However, the thirty-three-year-old midfielder was plagued by injuries, which then made him succumb to frustration, as Jürgen Klopp recounts. “I know the injuries were frustrating for him and for us, but the level he was able to play at when he was available was incredible. That is what I will remember,” the Liverpool coach said in an official statement.
In addition to Thiago, Matip is also leaving Liverpool
In any case, Joël Matip is also leaving Anfield. He has been wearing the 2019/20 Premier League champion’s jersey for eight long years and has played over 200 games for the club.
The thirty-two-year-old stopper has won the league title, Champions League, FA Cup, UEFA Super Cup and English League Cup with Liverpool. Quite objectively, then, it is fair to say that he will go out as a club legend.
“In all my years in football, I don’t think I have come across many players who are more loved than Joel Matip. I’m not even sure there’s anything bad to say about him,” Klopp said of Matip, also in an official statement.
“He is a great professional, a great footballer and a wonderful person – we have been blessed to have him with us for so long and now we can only wish him well as he embarks on a new direction,” the current Liverpool coach added.
