Group E
Chelsea made it through a tough game in Salzburg and secured first place in the group with a 2-1 win. AC Milan beat Dinamo Zagreb 4-0 and only need to avoid losing at home to Salzburg in a week’s time to take second place. Dynamo are last and would need a win at Stamford Bridge to finish third.
Group F
In Group F, a 1-1 draw with Shakhtar put Celtic out of the running for promotion. Real Madrid also lost 2: 3 at Leipzig. Real are assured of promotion, but not of first place. Leipzig are a point behind from second place, Shakhtar are three points behind and if they win next week they will be promoted instead of Leipzig.
Group G
The G’s got their act together on Tuesday. Manchester City’s 0-0 draw with Dortmund was interesting for the reason that the Citizens did not score for the second time in a row in the Champions League. Sevilla confirmed their role as favourites at home with a 3: 0 win over Copenhagen.
Before the last round, the final standings are set. Manchester City will go into the play-offs in first place, followed by Dortmund. The Europa League will be played in the spring by its specialist Sevilla and Copenhagen must accept the end of the cup season.
Group H
Things were happening in Group H. Juventus made up the deficit late in the game in Lisbon, but eventually lost 3: 4 to Benfica. In a match played in parallel, Paris took on Maccabi Haifa, crushing the Israeli champions 7-2 at home.
PSG and Benfica will fight for the first place in the last round from a distance. In case of equal points, the score is decisive and Paris is four goals better so far. Both have eleven points. Juventus and Maccabi are on three points.
