Failure. This is something Bayern are definitely not used to, either historically or just in recent years. Already Julian Nagelsmann failed to put an ideal game face on the Munich giant, and so the club’s management parted ways with him last March.
His replacement was Thomas Tuchel, who led Bayern to the Bundesliga title at the end of last season. Although fortunate, the reigning champion’s success was mainly due to Borussia Dortmund, who failed to win their last league match.
Bayern thus won their eleventh consecutive league title, Tuchel celebrated his third league coaching championship. Indeed, the German coach led PSG in the 2018/19 and 2019/20 seasons, with whom he won two championship titles.
From the new season, however, the Bundesliga has a new leader. It is Bayer Leverkusen, which the Bavarian team is trailing by an abysmal 8 points.
The weekend’s 2:3 defeat at Bochum contributed to the relatively large loss. Moreover, Bayern has nothing certain even in the Champions League, having lost 0:1 to Lazio in the opening match of the eighth round. There is also talk of a tense atmosphere in the cabinet, with Joshua Kimmich, for example, now thinking about leaving.
Tuchel will leave Bayern at the end of the season
The management of the most successful German club in history has taken a step that European football fans have been waiting for for a long time. The 50-year-old coach will leave the Allianz Arena at the end of the current season by mutual agreement.
“We have agreed to end our cooperation at the end of this season. Until then, of course, I will do everything in my power to achieve maximum success with the coaching staff, ” Tuchel said in an official Bayern statement.
“In an open discussion we have come to the decision to end our working relationship in the summer. Until then, every individual at the club is explicitly challenged to achieve the maximum possible in the Champions League and Bundesliga. In this regard, I also explicitly call on the team to be responsible.
In the Champions League in particular, after losing 0:1 in the first leg at Lazio, we are convinced that we will reach the quarter-finals in a packed Allianz Arena with our fans behind us,” added Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen.
