The new rich owners of Newcastle United are slowly starting to work on the rise of the North of England. The Magpies have already announced their first signing. Defender Kieran Trippier has arrived for a respectable £12 million.
the 31-year-old wing-back has been with Atlético Madrid so far. He won the Spanish top flight with them last season and was still under contract at the club for another 18 months.
“I’m thrilled to join this fantastic club,” Trippier commented on his transfer after signing a contract that runs until the summer of 2024.
The England defender said he enjoyed his time in Madrid. “But as soon as the interest from Newcastle came and the opportunity to play under Eddie Howe, who I have worked under in the past, I knew immediately where I wanted to be,” claims the Magpies’ new signing.
Howe engaged Trippier back in 2012 when he coached Burnley. Now they have a challenging task ahead of them together. To save Newcastle in the league.
The traditional English side is second to last in the Premier League, having won just one league game this season. But Trippier is aware of that. Newcastle, however, is a great club with a lot of talented players, according to him.
The former Tottenham player is looking forward to playing at the famous St. James’ Park as a home player. As a rival, he has seen how passionate the fans at Newcastle are and can’t wait to experience it as a Magpies player.
