After becoming the youngest heavyweight boxing champion in history, he managed to make nine consecutive defenses. But since 1990, the career of one of history’s most feared boxers has taken a turn in the wrong direction.
The first loss of his career and many controversial moments that culminated in a rape accusation. The former world champion remained virtually boxing-free for four years, three of which he spent in prison.
After his release, a press conference was held in March 1995, at which “Iron Mike” announced his return to boxing. There was long speculation over a possible opponent, with a cancelled fight with champion Evander Holyfield or a bout with the legendary George Foreman being in play due to previous events.

However, promoter Don King has announced that Mike’s first opponent after his return from prison will be the lesser known American boxer Peter “The Hurricane” McNeeley. Although he was a considerable underdog before his fight with the scariest man on the planet, the man was certainly not lacking in confidence.
Coming from a boxing family, McNeeley gave a trashtalk before the fight, entertaining all the excited fans. In the end, it was an event that was the hit of the PPV sales and made everyone involved a lot of money.
“I’m Peter McNeeley from Medfield, Mass (Massachusetts), watch me kick Mike Tyson’s p***l on Saturday night, ” he shouted at the press conference while entertaining everyone.
“I’m going to entangle Mike Tyson in my cocoon of horror, ” he threatened in interviews afterwards. It must be added that he was not afraid of his opponent. Even on the day of the fight, which took place on August 19, 1995 in Las Vegas, Peter McNeeley certainly did not lose his courage.

After a memorable staredown, with a terrified-looking Mike Tyson biting his temples and measuring his opponent with a stern gaze, McNeeley took on his opponent with vigor. However, he was faced with a reality that decided he wouldn’t get too hot between the sixteen ropes that night.
Although he pushed Tyson into the ropes, he found himself on the floor virtually after the first punch he received. He quickly jumped out of it, however, indicating to the referee that he wanted to go to the fight. He drove into his opponent again, creating pressure, but Tyson sent McNeeley down with another crushing combination 89 seconds later.
At that point, McNeeley’s manager ran into the ring to stop the fight. The bout was stopped and Mike Tyson, in his first fight after a four-year hiatus from boxing, won by disqualification over his opponent.
Tyson’s comeback set records in PPV ratings and sales, but was later subjected to criticism surrounding the quality of McNeeley’s skills. But then the following year he shut the mouths of all critics when he regained the WBC and WBA championship belt.
