The media report that doctors were at the scene within one minute, but even immediate medical attention did not help the rider.
“Despite his best efforts, the racer succumbed to his injuries. The cause of death is still under investigation,” noted a spokesman for event organizer SuperBike Brasil. The race was immediately abandoned after the tragic accident.
“The competition was running smoothly. All the necessary conditions for safety, as required by the regulations, were observed. At the moment, our organization’s priority is to fully support the Matheus family,” he added.
This is not the first death of a racer on this circuit. Last April, Mauricio Paludete died at Interlagos and less than a month later, racer Danilo Berto lost his life.
