Touré the target of ridicule! When asked about the best left wingers, he left out Vinícius or Kvaratskhelia, but listed players without form
Yaya Touré is one of the most respected former footballers. But this time he was wrong to name the three best left wingers of today. The trio he mentioned are not in ideal form this season and most fans would have mentioned other names.
Yaya Touré is one of the most respected former footballers. But this time he was wrong to name the three best left wingers of today. The trio he mentioned are not in ideal form this season and most fans would have mentioned other names.
Former midfielder Yaya Touré was definitely one of the best in the world at his position in his time. He is currently a coach and that’s also why he was asked if he wouldn’t say the best three left wingers at the moment in his opinion.
But his words didn’t please the fans, on the contrary they became a target of ridicule. The reason? Because the former Ivory Coast player mentioned a trio that is not exactly on form.
According to him, they are Raheem Sterling, Sadio Mané and Leroy Sané. The former has scored four goals in the current season and plays more in the centre of midfield.
The Senegalese Mané, also due to injury, is not shining as he did in the past and the same is the case with Sané, who plays more on the other side of the pitch and has scored only seven goals.
Touré has thus chosen players who have shone in the past and it is questionable what kind of overview he currently has. After naming this trio, he is the target of jeers from fans on social media.
Yet there is a plethora of left wingers in form. Perhaps the best is Real Madrid’s Vinícius Jr., while in Naples, young Georgian Khvicha Kvaratskhelia shines.
Not to forget Arsenal’s Gabriel Martinelli and although they play more on the right wing, PSG’s Kylian Mbappé or Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford would be better choices.
