Tottenham London have not been performing convincingly in the Conference Europa League. Against Rennes, it was supposed to fight for promotion, as third-placed Vitesse had 7 points, like Spurs, and shared the second promotion place. Rennes was the group winner with 11 points.
Vitesse won their last match in the Conference League group 3-1 against Mura and got second place with 10 points. Tottenham did not play against Rennes because of the coronavirus. The game was first postponed but is now cancelled.
UEFA decided to cancel the match altogether because they could not find a suitable date that suited both teams. The outcome of the match will be decided soon. It is likely that the match will be called off and Tottenham will finish in the third non-relegation place.
Tottenham London had 13 cases of coronavirus in their squad before the match. Eight players and five members of the coaching staff tested positive.
”Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, a solution could not be found that both clubs agreed to. Therefore, the match cannot be played and the matter has been referred to the Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Committee, which will make a decision in accordance with the competition’s rules,” UEFA said in a statement.
In addition to the match with Rennes, Tottenham had to postpone Sunday’s match against Brighton in the English Premier League. However, this match will definitely have a replacement date.
