Toronto unexpectedly lost to the NY Islanders

In the game Toronto Maple Leafs vs. New York Islanders (2:3) the home team was on the short end of the stick the whole time and never once took the lead in the game, which resulted in the home team losing to the better-playing opponent.

The NHL had only two games on the schedule after the All-Star break. The Toronto team entered the game as a favorite, having the best scorers of the current season in their ranks, as well as the MVP of the All-Star game, Auston Matthews.

Mathew Barzal put the Islanders ahead, but Mitchell Marner put the Maple Leafs back in the game early in the second period. Just two minutes later, Kyle MacLean gave the lead back to the home team with his NHL debut.

The Riders were able to tie the game in the 56th minute thanks to a goal by John Tavares. However, Islanders forward Pierre Engvall scored the winning goal with 2 minutes and 2 seconds left. Ilya Sorokin, who caught 35 shot attempts by Toronto players, had a great performance.

MacKinnon made it to Kucherov

The game New York Rangers vs Colorado Avalanche (2:1), when after 60 minutes only one goal was scored on both sides, had to be decided in overtime. Nathan Mackinnon shone in the game and gave his team the lead at the end of the first period. It was his 85th point of the season and he tied Russian Nikita Kucherov for the scoring lead with 32 goals and 53 assists. However, he has one less game played.

However, in the 52nd minute, Artemi Panarin, the NY Rangers’ most productive player, tied the game with his 31st goal of the season. The score remained the same until the end of the game and the game went into overtime. In the 62nd minute, Alexis Lafreniere scored on a pass from home goalie Jonathan Quick to tie the game for the home team.

Zach Parise, who signed a one-year contract, played his first game for the Avalanche since signing on January 26. However, he did not register in the stats. MacKinnon became the first player in Nordiques/Avalanche history to score 85 points in 50 games. Home goalie Jonathan Quick, on the other hand, became the 20th player in the NHL history charts with his 757th regular season game.
