Tomas Soucek has officially taken over the captain’s armband in the national selection from Vladimir Darida, who has retired from the national team. He had experience of captaining the Czech national team before that.
Suk had the armband for the first time in a friendly match when Bořek Dočkal handed it over to him. “I really appreciated it that he actually came and put the armband on my hand himself,” Souček said at the beginning of his talk about his role.
After that, he wore the armband several more times when the national team was missing former captain Vladimir Darida. Coach Jaroslav Šilhavý revealed that the choice of a new captain was a straightforward matter.
There was no hidden poll in the team, as is sometimes the case, Suk was simply determined because he is a natural leader and nobody had any problem with it.
“Individually, I appreciate it. I want to do this job (captain) for the guys who are here, I appreciate it, but at the same time I want to give back to them,” said the humble Czech captain.
New contracts for Soucek and Bowen
Meanwhile, there is loud talk in England that Tomáš Souček and Jarrod Bowen may get new and improved contracts. The new contracts should reflect the status they have built up at the club.
Bowen already boasts of being one of the highest earning hammermen. His contract is valued at around 145 million a year, making about 2.8 million a week.
According to Spotrac, the Czech national team captain earns approximately 100 million crowns a year. Considering his role at West Ham and his huge workload, he definitely deserves a raise.
Of course, the contracts do not include bonuses, which are also an important factor in player contracts.
According to Spotrac, the highest earning West Ham player is Kurt Zouma, who earns around 180 million crowns a year without bonuses.
