Tomáš Souček had a sensational night in the Europa League eighth round. He took the return match between West Ham and Sevilla to extra time with his goal. Andriy Yarmolenko of Ukraine also scored in extra time. West Ham are now through to the quarter-finals with a 2-1 aggregate score. The London Stadium had a great European night and the Czech captain is receiving nothing but praise for his performance.

This is exactly what Tomas Soucek needed. In recent times, he has also often faced unjudgmental criticism.
Despite his incredible consistency, he has had a couple of games go wrong and even amongst the West Ham faithful, there were those who pointed out that Soucek should get some rest on the bench.

But manager David Moyes knows full well how important the tidy defensive midfielder is to his team. Against Sevilla, Soucek put in one of his best performances of the season and the critics may have disappeared for good.

Soucek got his header through in the 39th minute after a beautiful centre from Michail Antonio. This goal is his first ever in European competition in a West Ham jersey. How did the prestigious WhoScored rate the 27-year-old midfielder’s performance?

The Czech captain received the highest mark of all players on the pitch (8.5)! During the match he had 52 touches with the ball, a pass success rate of 83% and got on the end line three times.

As usual, Soucek was also one of the best headers of the match. He won 4 aerial duels and the same number was also enjoyed by Hammer defender Kurt Zouma and Sevilla’s Thomas Delaney.

the 27-year-old Czech was also valid defensively. He won the ball back into West Ham’s possession on four occasions. Three times it was after a foot-to-foot duel and once he intercepted a Sevilla pass. The Havlíčkův Brod native also had five clearances from dangerous areas (for WHU) and blocked two shots.
