Julian Nagelsmann
It will be a year since the Bavarian giant club ended the cooperation with one of the youngest managers in its history. Nagelsmann began his engagement at Bayern in the summer of 2021. In his first season, everything went according to plan, with an early German Super Cup win putting fans’ hopes and expectations on the new young coach.
At the end of the season, Bayern Munich were able to celebrate their victory in the German Bundeliga, where as usual they gave their rivals no chance. The highlight of the season was the quarter-final elimination from the Champions League by Villarreal of Spain, it was probably the biggest surprise in the millionaire competition in the 2021/22 edition.
Bayern started the next season by winning the Super Cup again, and as has been the norm in recent years, the cup exit came at an early stage. When Nagelsmann was recalled, the Munich side were in 1st place in the Bundesliga and in preparation for a quarter-final clash with Manchester City. The recall was reportedly due to the atmosphere in the cabin and the game’s display.
As a result, the German manager led Bayern to 84 competitive matches, from which they came away defeated on only 10 occasions. Nagelsmann is currently fine-tuning the national team for the upcoming domestic EURO in June.
Thomas Tuchel
Tuchel came to Bayern with experience from Dortmund, from where he travelled to PSG after great results and made his way back to Germany via London, specifically Chelsea. On the Chelsea bench, he impressed especially by winning the Champions League, which few expected.
After replacing Nagelsmann, Tuchel had the difficult task of preparing his team for the Champions League quarter-final against Manchester City in just a few days. As expected, the mission was not a success and after 0:3 and 1:1 Bayern said goodbye to the Champions League.
Fortunately, Bayern won the title on home soil, we can debate if it was thanks to Tuchel or just Dortmund who couldn’t handle the pressure in the last round.
The defending champions jumped into the new season with the cannon Harry Kane, whose goals made the first rounds work out perfectly. However, at the start of the new year, the game went into a slump. It all started with a 0:1 loss to Bremen. Since then, it’s been as if it’s not the same old Bayern Munich. The players have been struggling and finding it difficult to get into scoring situations or throwing them away recklessly.
The imaginary highlight is the last double match. Losses to Leverkus and Lazio, exactly 0 shots on target in 2 games. The fans are not in the best mood. There is a strong discussion about the dismissal of Tuchel, who has lost 9 games out of 42 on the bench of the Bavarian big club. The problem, however, may be a replacement who is not currently on the coaching market. The next weeks or days will show if Tuchel will survive his team’s crisis.
