Before the start of the second Grand Slam tournament of the current season, it was expected that one of the Czech tennis players would make it to the final rounds. But now the situation looks completely different.

The lot for the first round of the French Open was merciful to Marketa Vondroušová. In the opening duel in France she met Alycia Parks from the USA. The latter is ranked 45th in the WTA rankings, but the vast majority of her successes have been on hard surfaces.

She is definitely not one of the better players on clay, and the match with the Czech opponent went accordingly. The first set was still fairly even, with Vondroušová taking it after 48 minutes.

But the second set was absolutely unambiguous. The native of Sokolov dominated it in 23 minutes, not allowing her opponent to play a single game. Parks also recorded ten double faults throughout the match.

Daria Kasatkina was waiting for her in the second round. A much more even match was expected, but Vondrousova advanced. However, this did not happen and the 23-year-old Czech, who played the final here in 2019, surprisingly dropped out.

Her performance was certainly not ideal, committing 35 unforced errors in the match. Considering that only two sets were played, that’s a huge number. So the Russian deservedly advanced and in the third round she will face the American Stearns.

Vondroušová, on the other hand, joined the crowd of Czech tennis players who dropped out in the opening rounds of the French Open. Among them are Krejcikova, Pliskova, Kvitova and the Fruhvirt sisters.

Karolína Muchová, on the other hand, will probably face Begu in the third round. Linda Noskova is still in the game, but she will face Rybakina. Among the men, Jiri Lehecka will try to advance.
