There is no end to Nottingham’s strengthening! For £40 million, they bring in their 16th summer signing
Nottingham, after their promotion to England’s top flight, are showing that they plan to stay there. At least that’s what we can judge by the activity in the transfer market. Forest have brought in the most reinforcements in the whole league and are one of the biggest spending teams.
Nottingham, after their promotion to England’s top flight, are showing that they plan to stay there. At least that’s what we can judge by the activity in the transfer market. Forest have brought in the most reinforcements in the whole league and are one of the biggest spending teams.
Nottingham’s latest signing so far is English offensive midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White, who arrives at the City Ground from Wolves for £42.5 million.
Nottingham will pay £25m initially, with a further £7m-10m tied up in bonuses that should be readily achievable and the rest being less likely bonuses (European Cup qualification is reportedly included).
The traditional English outfit has already spent £143.5m during this summer. In the Premier League, only Chelsea have spent more, bringing in players for a total of £176.5m (all sums include potential bonuses).
Morgan Gibbs-White had a successful season on loan in the Championship in a Sheffield United jersey, where he scored 12 goals and assisted 10. In addition, he created 19 great chances, the most ever in the league.
With Sheffield he reached the semi-finals of the playoffs, where the Blades lost to Nottingham. In the decisive game he scored in normal time but missed the decisive penalty in the shootout.
For Forest management, Gibbs-White was one of the main transfer targets and although Wolves rejected the first 3 bids for their youngster, the teams eventually came to an agreement.
This is the second time Nottingham have broken their transfer record this summer – the first time was when they brought in striker Taiwo Awoniyi for £18m in June.
It’s almost a record transfer for Wolves too, having only sold Jota to Liverpool for more money – £45m.
Gibbs-White is the 16th summer signing for Nottingham, the club’s plethora of reinforcements is in response to the departure of a lot of key players from last season such as Spence, Garner, Zinckernagel and Samba.
Gibbs-White will not be playing under Forest manager Steve Cooper for the first time, having already worked under him during his loan spell at Swansea in the 20/21 season.
Nottingham recorded their first win in Round 2 this season when they beat West Ham at their stadium. On Saturday, they have an away game against Everton, who are also keen to get their first points in the table.
