The situation in Anaheim looks promising, I have a chance, Suchanek rejoices. He’s hoping for a rookie contract in the fall
It was a big disappointment when Tomas Suchanek was not selected again in the NHL draft, but the disappointment was replaced by joy when Anaheim expressed interest in the talented goalie.
It was a big disappointment when Tomas Suchanek was not selected again in the NHL draft, but the disappointment was replaced by joy when Anaheim expressed interest in the talented goalie.
Half a year ago, he shone in goal for the national team that took silver at the World Junior Championship. He expected a team to pick him in the draft this time.
But it didn’t happen and since it was the last chance for the 20-year-old goalie to go through the draft, there was probably sadness in his camp. But it may not have lasted long.
Anaheim invited him to Development Camp, where he certainly impressed. “The goalie coaches told me they liked me both as a person and in goal. The Development Camp helped me a lot. Since I talked to the agents, Anaheim is interested, ” Suchanek said in an interview with Hockey Přerov.
Suchanek played 51 games for the Tri-City Americans in the WHL this season. And he hopes to move to the NHL soon.
The door is opening for him in Anaheim. The Ducks only have four goalies on their roster: John Gibson, Lukas Dostal, Calle Clang and Gage Alexander. And to make matters worse, Gibson is unhappy with the team and is asking to be traded, so there could be another vacancy.
“The goaltending situation in Anaheim looks really promising, I have a great chance. I’m going there again in September and I’ll see how it goes. They have one open spot. It’s up to me whether or not I can get it in September, ” Suchanek added.
So in September the young goalie will fly to another camp where he will fight for a rookie contract. That’s why he’s still waiting on offers, even though he’s already received a lasso from the AHL.
