He saved his sister and was injured himself. The inspiring story of how a young boy faced his fears and earned the WBC championship belt for his heroic act. The organization even named a weight class after him.

a 6-year-old boy became an overnight hero

Almost three years ago, a heroic act happened in the American state of Wyoming that caught our attention and we decided to bring you an extraordinary six-year-old boy, Bridger Walker.

Overnight, he became a hero whose courage was recognised by the world boxing organisation.

A 4-year-old girl had a stroke of bad luck when a German Shepherd ran up to her in the street and attacked her. But at that moment, her brother, two years older than her, stood between her and the animal and tried to prevent the worst from happening.

Although he sustained numerous facial injuries from several dog bites, this did not prevent him from covering his younger sister, whom eyewitnesses say he managed to drag to safety. The boy suffered injuries that required a two-hour surgery and 90 stitches to his face.

His courageous act made him the world’s best boxer for a day

It wasn’t just this courageous act, but the answer to family members as to why he jumped between his sister and the dog. ” If anyone should have died, it should have been me rather than her,” he said , according to Cbs19news.

Aside from being invited by a private doctor who was involved in the boy’s treatment for free, his story was shared by media and celebrities around the world. Bridger even caught the attention of the WBC, the world boxing organization, which decided to recognize the young boy’s heroism.

The organization named him an honorary champion, and the boy received his championship belt. In addition, the WBC also named the weight category called Bridgerweight (from 91 to 102 kg) after him, which was even active and held a title fight.

The young Danish boy thus became the best boxer in the world, at least for one day, but his courage will remain with him forever. Although his injuries were serious, just a year later he was already giving out smiles in public.
