Lazio Rome has to deal with an unpleasant case. The new signing was introduced with a song, the meaning of which is absolutely disagreed with by the club’s supporters, who immediately went into counter-action.

Elseid Hysaj became the new signing of Lazio in the summer. As is customary then, as a new member of the team he had to present himself by singing a song.

But his choice was not entirely to the liking of the club’s fans. He sang the song Bella Ciao, which in the 1940s was regarded by Italian partisans as an anti-fascist anthem. Besides, it is now considered the anthem of freedom worldwide.

And why didn’t Lazio fans like it? It’s very well known that they subscribe to extreme political trends. They embrace racism and various forms of discrimination.

For a long time, they even fought to prevent women from buying tickets to the stadium, at least to the front rows. In 2019, they unfurled a banner that said they worshipped Benito Mussolini, Italy’s fascist dictator.

The ultras went on the offensive immediately after Hysaj’s song was published. They went to the restaurant where the team was supposed to have dinner, but they didn’t catch him, so they headed to the hotel where the team was staying. Outside the building, with police patrols watching, they talked to the player.

But it seems to have come to nothing. On Monday night, a sign appeared on a bridge in Rome saying that Hysaj was a worm and Lazio was fascist.

One of the leaders of the ultras let it be known to the Adnkronos news agency that Lazio fans have always been extreme fascists and that they are proud to claim that.

Maurizio Sarri, who is the team’s new coach, is not happy about this. Even the club’s management is trying to appear apolitical and protect its players, but you cannot change something that has been in place for decades with a wave of a wand.

Will Hysaj withstand the onslaught of new fans or will he prefer to change clubs again soon?
