As it happens, former stars of world football often make a living after their professional careers end by commentating on matches in TV studios around the world. It’s no different for Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher, who spent his entire football career at the British big club.
In short, the former footballer has Liverpool at heart. But he had to swallow a bitter pill in Tuesday’s Champions League match when his beloved club from the City of Beatles was disgraced by Real Madrid.
Everything looked idyllic when in the 14th minute of the match the scoreboard read 2:0 to Liverpool. But then came a whirlwind the fans at Anfield had never seen before in the Champions League.
Carragher was a guest on Canadian TV station CBC Sports, where he had the opportunity to comment on his aforementioned duel in the first Champions League knockout stage. But the night turned out to be one of his worst nightmares for him and all the club’s supporters.
Fans on Twitter edited his reactions across the entirety of last night’s game. It’s probably no secret that the former footballer gave vent to a mix of conflicting emotions that became instantly viral among football fans.
According to The Sun, he even reportedly responded to the video by saying That reaction probably speaks for itself.
The British newspaper also published a summary of the best fan reactions to the edited video. Here’s a selection of the very best.
“He went through all the stages of ecstasy and agony in just 46 minutes. An exact replica of myself last night. That’s football heritage. He looks red with all the emotions.”
While Real Madrid supporters celebrate a historic victory and another magical night in the Champions League, Liverpool fans would prefer to erase Tuesday’s game from their memories.
