Tomáš Souček is set to be the first West Ham player to speak out against the club’s wage hierarchy, according to reports in England. After it was revealed how much Kurt Zouma earns, a lot of the Hammers stars are very unhappy.

Last week, a video of West Ham stopper Kurt Zouma mindlessly kicking and punching his cat came to light, to which there was a huge wave of resentment against the French footballer from all fans.

The club did not suspend him, only fined him two weeks’ wages, which amounts to £250,000. This, according to the Daily Mail, was to infuriate the West Ham stars who found out that they were earning much less than the Chelsea reinforcement. They include Tomas Soucek, Declan Rice, Pablo Fornals and Vladimir Coufal.

Soucek has a salary of £47,000 a week in the salary column of his current contract. The club has already started negotiations with him on a new contract, which expires in two and a half years, the subject of the negotiations will be mainly an improved salary.

“The first player who will really test the club’s wage system is Tomas Soucek. He will definitely use the information about Zouma’s salary as leverage on the management. He was hoping for around £120,000 a week, but now he will have a good reason to do so and may ask for more,” says the usually well-informed source.

If anyone at West Ham deserves a pay rise, it is clearly Soucek. Coming from Slavia, he helped the Hammers stave off relegation from the Premier League, and he made a huge contribution to sixth place and promotion to the Europa League the following season.

He scored 16 goals, added 2 assists, and coach David Moyes can’t imagine a lineup without him. West Ham brought him in for €21 million, his value has already risen to €40 million according to Transfermarkt. He has also become a huge fan favourite thanks to his dedication, hard work and humble demeanour.
