The fight that all boxing fans were looking forward to is now sadly over. Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk will not be in the ring together. For now. However, the Ukrainian boxer’s manager is keeping hope alive, saying that he and his charge intend to deliver this big duel to the fans.

The title unification bout will not happen. While Oleksandr Usyk has nodded to almost most of the conditions that Tyson Fury has often, almost unreasonably, imposed, the Ukrainian boxer refuses to concede to the British star indefinitely.

The duel between these fighters was expected to be hosted by London’s Wembley during the spring. But now the fight is nowhere in sight, if it ever happens. The reason? According to people on Usyk’s team, Fury doesn’t really want this fight.

“Usyk’s team is pulling out of further negotiations for the fight because Fury never had enough and wanted all the rights and all the benefits for himself. I don’t want to go into details, but I will say this. When someone doesn’t want to fight, he overvalues himself knowing that the fight won’t happen,” Usyk’s manager Egis Klimas told Sky Sports.

It was supposed to be the biggest fight in many years. After all, it’s been a long time since the last time all four heavyweight titles were unified. Usyk owns three, Fury only one.

There are words of sadness and regret from the Ukrainian side. After all, Usyk had really wanted the fight for a very long time and came out in all possible ways. He even agreed to let Fury keep 70 percent of the prize money. In return, he demanded only money for the Ukrainian people.

“Most likely in England they have forgotten that Usyk holds most of the belts and Tyson only one. They claimed that Tyson is a personality who must have all the rights. But look at the statistics regarding the sales for the Tyson vs. Chisora and Usyk vs. Chisora fights and then tell me who the draw is,” Klimas added.

Usyk was reportedly fed up with Fury constantly making new and new demands. He didn’t want to constantly bow his head to him. According to British promoter Frank Warren, however, the negotiations can still be salvaged.

However, the word from the Ukrainian side is that what Usyk was dangling is unlikely to be agreed to again, so Fury can say goodbye to getting 70% of the purse money if the fight happens.

Likewise, Usyk’s manager says they see the fight with Fury as one of the most important fights in boxing history and that’s why they want to deliver it to the fans. So the hope is not dead, but it is greatly diminished.
