Origi in the Merseyside derby
In the stands, it was looking like a draw. The game was heading for a goalless draw, whereupon star defender Virgil van Dijk decided to shoot from a volley. But his finish was not good and the ball seemed to be going into the net. However, it started to fall quickly, with Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford underestimating the situation.
The ball bounced off the crossbar to the onrushing Divock Origi, who very easily cleared the ball into the net and secured an important win for the home Reds. Jürgen Klopp, of course, was swept away by the moment and ran onto the pitch to celebrate with his team.
The “exhibition” match with Manchester United
It was the fifth of March 2023 and Anfield was witness to another fairy tale. This time, it saw a historic win over Manchester United, who swept Liverpool by a difference of perhaps three classes.
The match, part of the 26th round of the 2022/23 Premier League, was won 7-0. “You experience something like this once in a lifetime and it’s wonderful,” Klopp said after the match.
Home double for Liverpool
Of course, gaining a domestic double cannot be missing among the greatest achievements. In the 2021/22 season, Jürgen Klopp’s Liverpool became only the fifth team to win both domestic cups – the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup – in the same season.
Chelsea awaited the Reds in both final clashes. And both matches ended in goalless draws after normal time. The victory in favour of Liverpool always had to be decided by a penalty shoot-out.
Corner taken quickly
The 2018/19 season brought Liverpool their sixth Champions League triumph overall. However, the 2-0 final win against Tottenham and progression to the final was preceded by one of the greatest comebacks in the history of the competition.
In the semi-final, Klopp’s Liverpool lost 0:3 to home side Barcelona at the Camp Nou and the English side’s promotion hopes were almost nil. However, the Anfield Road match produced something absolutely incredible. The home team managed to win 4: 0, which meant only one thing – promotion!
And the catchphrase “Corner taken quickly,” went down in history. Belgian Origi increased the score to 4:0 and his goal was voted the best in the club’s history.
League title for Liverpool after long 30 years
For all Reds supporters, the latest league title win may be the most important trophy ever. Coach Klopp managed to end a 30-year wait in the 2019/20 season.
Liverpool capped the aforementioned season with an incredible 99 points. Needless to say, only Manchester City managed to get more in the Premier League in the 2017/18 season, and that was 100 points.
