The Champions League is finally back. In Tuesday’s programme, some teams can secure promotion to the spring phase and some can drop out of the game. Which games to watch?
The Champions League is back!
Let’s start with Group E. Here’s the situation. Atlético Madrid 8 points, Lazio 7, Feyenoord 6, Celtic 1. The first three teams can still qualify in any order, Celtic will definitely not qualify. Colchoneros play at Feyenoord, Lazio at home to Celtic.
Atlético will be certain of promotion if they beat Feyenoord. That would also help Lazio, because if the Italians beat Celtic and Feyenoord don’t score, they will secure promotion. Feyenoord need to win both their games (Atlético, Celtic) to advance and they would advance.
In Group H, the situation is a little bit messed up. Barcelona could have been assured of promotion, but they lost to Shakhtar. Now they have 9 points, same as Porto, Shakhtar have 6. Last place Antwerp with 0 points are already out.
Barcelona also plays Porto, Shakhtar at home to Antwerp. If the Ukrainian team can win, the last match with Porto will be very dramatic.
The group of death and the sure advancers
However, the most confusing situation is in Group F, the group of death. Any team can still advance from this group. Dortmund are in the best position with 7 points, second PSG have 6, third AC Milan 5 and Newcastle 4.
On Tuesday, AC Milan will clash with Borussia Dortmund, while PSG will welcome Newcastle, who have a lot to give back. If Dortmund win at the San Siro, they are assured of promotion regardless of the outcome of the second leg. PSG will secure promotion if they win and AC Milan don’t win. The Rossoneri and Newcastle cannot yet secure promotion.
The situation is clear in Group G. Manchester City have full points (12), Leipzig have three less. Belgrade and Young Boys have the same number of points and can no longer qualify. Leipzig can only fight for the first place if they win in Manchester, they lost the first leg at home 1: 3.
