Two weeks ago, the Champions League Group F match between Paris Saint-Germain and AC Milan ended in a 3-0 draw. On Tuesday night, the Rossoneri celebrated at the San Siro, winning 2-1 after a turnaround. Olivier Giroud scored the decisive goal.
It was a spicy encounter for PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma. In 2021, he left AC Milan for Paris as a free agent, a fact that has not been forgotten by the fans of the club that raised him in football to this day. They showed it by, among other things, throwing fake banknotes on the pitch.
From the kick-off at 9pm there was an offensive-oriented performance. In the ninth minute, the visitors took the lead. Captain Marquinhos extended Vitinho’s corner to the far post, where Slovakian stopper Milan Škriniar headed beyond the reach of Mike Maignan.
Milan equalised three minutes later to make it 1-1. Giroud’s cross was still deflected by Donnarumma, but the ball rebounded to Rafael Leão, who scissors it into the net.
The star Mbappé was one of the very active players on the pitch, for example in the 25th minute he finished just wide of the left post. Two minutes later, Dembélé came even closer to scoring, hitting the crossbar. On the other side, Giroud shot into the side netting immediately afterwards.
After half an hour of play, the Rossoneri played a direct free kick from a promising position. Tomori headed between the three posts, but Donnarumma cleared the shot to safety. Leão’s inaccurate finish on the ground in the 37th minute also ended in failure.
The attractive spectacle continued after the break and another goal was scored in the 50th minute. French striker Olivier Giroud scored with a header after Hernández’s centre to make it 2-1.
In the 63rd minute, Donnarumma had to intervene again against a nasty direct free kick, this time defusing a shot from Theo Hernández. His brother Lucas from PSG, by the way, was substituted not long afterwards, namely by Mukiel.
In the 70th minute, Mbappé sprinted into the box, but from an angle, he couldn’t beat Maignan. The Parisians also failed to score after the subsequent corner. Not content with simply defending the lead they had gained, AC Milan continued their attacking activity.
In the 85th minute, the Italian goalkeeper in Parisian colours deflected Okafor’s shot off target with his fingertips. Lee Kang-in, on the other hand, could have equalised at the end of regulation time, but he hit the bar.
PSG were unable to avert defeat during the eight-minute set-up and are second in the group table with six points. AC Milan are in third place with five points after their first win. Dortmund lead the table with seven points, while Newcastle are last with four points.
