The Bundesliga offers a more even battle for the title than anyone expected. Can Dortmund dethrone Bayern?
It is unthinkable that a club other than Bayern Munich would win the German league title. For the last ten years there has been no one to dethrone Bayern Munich.
That a club other than Bayern Munich would win the German league title is unthinkable in recent years. For the last ten years there has been no one to dethrone Bayern Munich.
Bayern Munich managed a home game against Ausburg and will remain at the top of the Bundesliga table after an almost complete twenty-fourth round.
The match did not go as expected for the reigning champions and after just three minutes the opponents took the lead. However, this did not last long and by half-time Bayern were already leading 4:1.
There were no surprises after the break either and the charges under Julian Nagelsmann cruised to a comfortable 5:2 victory.
The impressions from the won match and the joy of the home fans could be tempered a bit in the evening by Dortmund, who played the famous Westphalian derby on the ground of Schalke 04.
Borussia entered the new year in style. Until last week’s game at Chelsea, they had a perfect record of ten consecutive wins. Thanks to this streak, the Dortmund players are back in the title fight.
In case of a win against Schalke, which was in the last position in the table before the match, they could have caught up with the leader Bayern Munich.
Despite leading twice in the match, Dortmund only took a point from the derby, which puts the Munich club two points ahead.
There are still ten rounds to go in the German league and it looks like the title fight will be more even than anyone expected before the start of the season.
