The biggest surprise of the weekend: Chelsea’s fall, Dortmund’s loss or an unexpectedly attractive duel

What a weekend it would be if there weren’t some surprises born on the football fields. If the favorites were still winning, it wouldn’t be so interesting. The biggest surprise of the weekend is of course Chelsea’s loss to Nottingham, but there were a few more surprises, but they weren’t always result surprises.

Chelsea vs Nottingham

It should have been a cat and mouse fight. Chelsea, the clear favourite, a team that had pumped enough money into it over the last six months to last Nottingham for several decades. From the start of the game it was obvious which team would be more active. The visitors rely on quick counter attacks in most games and it was no different.

Raheem Sterling was the biggest problem for the visiting defence. In fact, you could say it was only a matter of time before the ball fell into the net. But the goal unexpectedly fell right at the beginning of the second half into Chelsea’s goal, when after one of the breaks Elanga sovereignly finished at the back post.

Just when it looked like the home side might score, the brilliant Turner, who has become one of the driving forces since his transfer from Arsenal, intervened. By the 84th minute, Turner had already been beaten and was lying at the right post of his own goal. Jackson, who was all alone in front of an empty net, found himself in a small area, but he couldn’t handle the relatively easy task.

Dortmund vs Heidenheim

The Bundesliga newcomers arrived in Dortmund without a point. A week ago they lost to Hoffenheim by a goal. On the other hand, home side Dortmund surprisingly dropped points against Bochum. After last season, when Borussia played for the title until the last minutes, they definitely wanted to put pressure on Bayern this season. However, losses like this must not come.

The match started as best as it could for the home side. In the 15th minute Can increased the score to 2:0 from a penalty. It was looking like a fairly straightforward game. The score didn’t change until the end of the half. No one in the stadium wanted to admit that Csaplár’s trap had been sprung. However, the visitors entered the second half much more active, perhaps Dortmund were lulled by the first half.

In the 61st minute, Dinkci reduced the arrears and the drama was on. At times the visitors calmly outplayed the home side and the reward came. In the 82nd minute, Kleindienst equalised from the penalty spot. By the end of the match no one else was among the scorers, so unfortunately for the guests and fortunately for the home team Csaplár’s trap did not happen. A point for the home team, but certainly not enough.

Sheffield vs Everton

The match looked rather unattractive on paper. It should have been one of those less watched Premier League duels. However, the players brought the spectators out of their mistake in the 14th minute when Doucoure scored. The home side didn’t wait long to respond, even turning the tide by half-time when a shot from outside the box bounced off the bar and into the back of Pickford, eventually ending up in the net.

The visitors jumped into the second half the better side and Danjuma equalised after ten minutes. The game was spilling from one side to the other. The visitors could have lost a point at the very end, but Pickford held them up. The result itself is not a surprise, but the play of both teams was.
