Tears of happiness and great joy! Spanish commentators’ celebration of Nadal’s victory has taken the internet by storm

Rafael Nadal dominated the Australian Open on Sunday, winning a record 21st Grand Slam and becoming the best tennis player in history, at least for a time. The Mallorca native made the whole of Spain proud, and there was great joy. The same was true for the commentators of the final.
One of the commentators of Sunday’s final was Álex Corretja, former Spanish tennis player and French Open finalist in 1998 and 2001. It was his reaction that moved fans around the world.
While his co-commentator was looking for all possible superlatives for Nadal, Corretja just couldn’t believe his eyes with his head in his hands. When he was subsequently approached by a colleague to give his opinion, he had tears in his eyes and his voice was shaking.
“He did it! On January 30, 2022, this guy who makes the whole of Spain happy has just won the Australian Open and is the tennis player with the most grand slams in history! An achievement of incredible proportions. Talent, suffering, patience, competitiveness, passion, but above all emotion. Rafa has won his second title in Australia,” the Spanish commentator gushed with enthusiasm and handed over the floor to Álex.
“Apart from being a commentator, I’m a human being and this is… Absolutely uncommentable. What Nadal has done, to me, is… Stunning,” Corretja stammered, his voice shaking and tears in his eyes.
“It’s… It’s unbelievable. I don’t know how to explain it to you… I played tennis, I stood on the court… And to prove this is impossible. It’s impossible to understand how he handled the situation, not just because of all the injuries he had in his career, but he played against a Russian roller who chases him all over the court, he’s able to pick him apart, he’s able to crush you…,” an emotional Corretja continued in the studio.
