Women’s football is on the rise, even in our country. There are several female footballers working abroad and one of them is twenty-six-year-old midfielder Katerina Svitkova.

She plays for Chelsea in England, of which she has been a big fan since she was a young girl. She joined the club in the summer, having previously played for West Ham.

“Every training session pushes me, I like to be guided by more experienced players. All the girls are very nice and they don’t play games. Plus, they know me from the past. Some from West Ham, where I played for the last two years, and some from Slavia,” she said in an interview with Sport.

Women’s football is popular in England, thousands of people come to watch it. So it is not surprising that there are occasionally some fans who have the name of a Czech national team midfielder on their jersey.

“They send me pictures of me in my jersey, and they even play for me on FIFA. I think they will come to see us even when the men’s World Cup is on. Hopefully they will prefer to watch us play in person rather than watching football on TV,” Svitková added.

She is now back in the Czech Republic, playing a friendly match with Hungary in Zlín, and a few days later she will move back to England, where the Czechs will be hosted by England.

“The Hungarians are going up every year and the English are this year’s European champions. It depends on what kind of mood they are in. They play the USA in a sold-out Wembley four days before us,” she concluded.
