Steven Gerrard has cut himself too much. See how the fans called for his sacking. After the game, the management obliged
Aston Villa didn’t make it through a very important game against Fulham on Thursday night and the club’s management ran out of patience. Gerrard reinforced Aston Villa last November, whereupon he led one of the paper stronger units in the Premier League to 14th place. Indeed, after a good start to his engagement, his players have stagnated once again.
The Liverpool legend was thus in need of a number of new reinforcements. As a result, Aston Villa are currently the 7th most valuable club in the Premier League. It is not surprising that the management did not like the current position, even the fans who showed their dislike during the match.
It must be added, however, that Gerrard was also rather unlucky to have injured players. Biggest signing Diego Carlos has only played two league games so far. Midfielder Boubacar Kamara is also out at the moment. Lucas Digne and Leander Dendoncker are others on whom the English coach relied, but…
The result is only two wins against Everton and Southampton. Moreover, Aston Villa are now facing a rather tough draw before the break for the World Cup in Qatar. This weekend they face Brentford and then Newcastle, Manchester United and Brighton. They will then finish the rest of the year with duels against Liverpool and Tottenham.
The team from the centre of England will have a lot to do to improve their results and start picking up points. Behind them are two heavyweights, Wolves and Leicester, who are certainly not expected to be relegated!
What will happen to the 42-year-old coach is a question mark. He was quite successful at Rangers FC, winning the title with them in the 2020/21 season. But now he has failed. As mentioned, injuries have not helped him in the first place, but there is certainly no time for such things in the Premier League.
After all, he is far from the first coach to lose his place on the bench this season. Scott Parker, Bruno Lage and especially Thomas Tuchel could all have their say.
