Bayern won the 13th round of the Bundesliga, defeating Union Berlin 1:0 at home. Despite the clear dominance of the favourite, the match was dramatic until the last minutes. It was decided by a second-half goal from defender Raphael Guerreiro.
Matthijs de Ligt had the first chance of the match in the sixth minute. But from a small corner he only hit the centre of Union’s goal with his head. Dayot Upamecano threatened a minute later. But his shot to the right post was parried out for a corner by visiting goalkeeper Frederik Ronnow.
Kingsley Coman’s attempt closed out a successful opening quarter of an hour. But the visitors’ goalkeeper dealt with it as well. The French speedster had a much better chance in the 23rd minute. But this time his cross from the side didn’t get between the three posts at all.
Leon Goretzka’s finish capped off the half-hour conquest, but it whizzed high over. Raphael Guerreiro and Coman also wasted chances, the former in a good position to shoot, the latter only hitting the defender in front of him.
The first half closed with two great chances for Bayern in stoppage time. First Leroy Sané narrowly missed the target, then in the fifth added minute Jamal Musiala missed a cross from the small area and only beat the goalkeeper in the middle of the goal.
Bayern had the upper hand but were worried about the victory until the end of the match
The finish, on the other hand, played into the hands of the home side in the opening minute of the second half when Guerreiro struck with ease. Moreover, Sané’s collaboration with Harry Kane was followed by a second goal in the 55th minute, but the Englishman’s intervention could not stand due to offside.
Ten minutes later, Musiala threatened from distance, but this time the visitors’ goalkeeper had an easy job. The Union’s first chance came in the 77th minute, but a great chance by Jerome Roussillon was fantastically saved by Manuel Neuer.
On the other side, Goretzka could have made the difference in the 82nd minute, but Ronnow made an excellent save. Bayern finished the game expertly and are now second, four points behind Leverkusen, after a 1-0 win. Union remain one position above the barrage.
