The opening of the match did not offer many chances, only a questionable little home goal by the visiting stopper Samir brought the home fans to their feet. The visitors had the first opportunity in the 17th minute, but Juraj Kucka’s header in a good position just missed.
The Czechs and Slovaks played the main role in the first half, with Tomas Soucek finding himself on the small whitewash in the 28th minute, but he headed over. Seven minutes later, Said Benrahma had a double great chance, firstly saved by Ben Foster, then Watford were helped by the bar.
The game was scoreless. After the change of sides, Benrahma shot again from the edge of the box, this time missing the target.
In the 68th minute, the stadium exploded. Jarrod Bowen’s shot was knocked into his own net by visiting stopper Samir.
Tom Cleverley had the equaliser seven minutes later, but Lukasz Fabianski made an excellent save against his long-range shot. In the 84th minute, Bowen could have made the final decision, but his hard shot was cleared off the bar by Foster.
West Ham kept the game close, never letting their opponents have any more chances and won 1: 0.
