Slot praised the atmosphere at Anfield Road. Coach Italiano said in front of his charges
Liverpool beat Bologna 2-0 and remain 100% as one of the 7 teams. Neither Arne Slot nor Vincenzo Italiano spared words of praise for their charges in their post-match press conferences. It may come as a surprise especially to the visitors’ coach, but according to him Bologna delivered a confident performance.
Liverpool beat Bologna 2-0 and remain 100% as one of the 7 teams. Neither Arne Slot nor Vincenzo Italiano spared words of praise for their charges in the post-match press conferences. It may be surprising especially for the away coach, but according to him Bologna gave a confident performance.
Slot enjoyed the game at Anfield Road
It was the first ever Champions League match at Alfield Road for the Dutch coach. According to him, it was a unique experience which fortunately turned out well. Of course, the Dutchman couldn’t praise the atmosphere as much as the importance of the result, which is even more important when we look at the other surprising results.
“The performance will never be perfect. In certain parts of the game the opponent controlled the game and didn’t let us do anything. You always have some room for improvement in the defensive and offensive parts of the game. We played well today,” the Dutch coach assessed the performance.
Mohamed Salah, who was also questioned by reporters, drove the victory with one goal and an assist. Slot, however, was quick to respond that he didn’t know what they still wanted to hear. According to his coach, the Egyptian winger simply played a great game, which he crowned with a goal.
“He hadn’t scored a goal for a few games in a row before the Wolves game but you can’t jinx it with players like him or Darwin. Nothing lasts forever and one day he will just score a goal,” Slot added.
Bologna didn’t come to Liverpool just to defend, which caused several great chances for the Italian side. Slot praised the opponents, adding that he and his colleagues had to analyse the game for several hours before giving tactical instructions to his charges. “Bologna are not afraid to play one-on-one duels, which was also shown today. They caused us a lot of problems,” Slot concluded the conference.
Italiano is proud of his charges
It is rare to hear words of praise for his team from the manager of a losing team. Vincenzo Italiano was the bright exception this time. “We wanted to leave here with our heads held high after a confident performance. We did that and I’m glad we left a good impression,” Italiano assessed the match.
The Italian coach also described his expectations from the match, saying that Liverpool’s chances would come even if the Italian side retreated deep in front of their own goal, which is why he opted for an active approach that will see the home side’s chances come anyway. “Of course we created chances too, unfortunately we weren’t as clinical as our opponents,” Italiano added ruefully.
Bologna only drew with Shakhtar Donetsk in their opening game and so remain on the table with just one point. After the match at Anfield, it even has a negative score (-2), which the Italian coach knows is not good. “We should have scored here for sure, as goal difference can be an important factor in the relegation mathematics at the end of the competition,” the visitors’ coach expressed his concern.
