Portuguese teams are very strong in the current edition of European competitions. Porto made it to the Champions League eight-finals, Benfica to the quarter-finals and Sporting will fight for the Europa League semi-finals today.
Benfica challenged Inter in the quarter-finals, but lost 0:2 at home. Nicolo Barella and Romelu Lukaku scored.
In the rematch, it was certain that the Portuguese would not face an easy challenge at the San Siro. And so it was. In the 14th minute Barella scored and Banfica had to score three goals.
By the end of the half, there was a small glimmer of hope when Fredrik Aursnes scored. However, Inter added two goals in the second half through Lautaro Martinez and Joaquin Correa and the game was over.
Benfica fought back, with Antonio Silva scoring in the 86th minute and Petar Musa, who came on in the 80th minute, equalising in the fifth minute.
The goal by the former Slavia and Liberec forward did not help the progression, but it will not take away the joy of the 25-year-old striker, who only comes on late.
Benfica are currently first in the Portuguese league with a four-point lead over second-placed Porto, but they have lost their last two games, putting pressure on themselves.
