Shocking announcement! A sad and devastated Nadal has a fatigue fracture, will he lose his favourite clay court tournament?
Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal came up with a shocking announcement on his Twitter account. Upon his return to Spain, he underwent an examination that revealed a fatigue fracture in his rib. According to reports, Nadal will miss 4 to 6 weeks on the courts.
You would be hard pressed to find a tennis player with better form at the moment. Rafael Nadal has jumped into four tournaments this season and won three of them. His first defeat came in the final at Indian Wells. After 20 straight wins and triumphs at the Melbourne Summer Set, Australian Open and Acapulco, he fell to Taylor Fritz.
But he can now forget about tennis for a while. According to his statement on Twitter, he will be out of action for up to six weeks. That’s practically the entire clay court part of the season. It’s one of his favourites.
But his participation in Roland Garros, which starts on 22 May, is also in jeopardy. He will definitely miss the tournaments in Monte Carlo and Barcelona. His participation in Madrid and Rome is also very uncertain (even unlikely).
I am devastated, he said
“As soon as I got back to Spain I went to see my medical team to be examined after the final in Indian Wells,” he wrote on his Twitter account. “As it turns out, I have a fatigue fracture in one of my ribs and will be out for four to six weeks.”
“It’s not good news and I wasn’t expecting it. I’m devastated and sad because I’ve been having fun on the courts since the start of the season. I went into a very important part of the year with very good feelings and results,” he continued. “But I always had that fighting and overcoming spirit in me. I will work hard to get better,” he added.
Nadal has managed to collect 3350 points in tournaments this year. He has a lead of 1620 points over second-placed Daniil Medvedev in the ATP Race rankings. During the clay part of the season he was supposed to be one of the biggest stars again and could have attacked the world number one position. Instead, he is now facing further injury treatment…
