Nottingham celebrate historic win
The first half saw a lot of pressure from Liverpool, but the half ended goalless. Liverpool eased up in the second half, which led to the decisive goal in the 72nd minute when Hudson-Odoi broke through.
Nottingham could have increased their lead in the 85th minute when Anthony Elanga found himself alone in front of the goal, but Alisson made a great save.
Liverpool had the upper hand but missed chances
Liverpool had more shots, more ball possession and better xG in the match but failed to convert their chances. The team led by Arno Slote had not scored a league goal so far this season until Hudson-Odoi stepped in. Nuno Espirito Santo led his Nottingham side to a surprising 1-0 victory.
Liverpool had 14 shots on target, five of which went between the sticks, showing their dominance of the game. Yet, unlike the opening three weeks of the season when they scored seven goals, this time they could not assert themselves. Nottingham remained unbeaten after four rounds of the Premier League and successfully passed their toughest test yet.
Coaches at the post-match press conference
Arne Slot:. The game was often stopped and we hardly created any chances. We have to look at ourselves, we have to be better. We lost the ball too often around the penalty area, it wasn’t good enough. We have to be better with the ball.”
Nuno Espirito Santo:. I’m really happy for the boys. Liverpool are a very good team, you can’t play against them and ignore their quality. Defensively we did really well. It was impossible for our wingers to last 90 minutes so we needed fresh legs in the second half.”
