Anthony Moris, a goalkeeper originally from Luxembourg, put himself between the three sticks of Union SG on Thursday in one of the club’s biggest games in years. The Belgian side travelled to the famous Anfield as part of the Europa League group stage.
Unfortunately for the visitors, the Reds kept the match safe and managed to win it 2-0. Ryan Gravenberch and Diogo Jota scored the goals.
Union put on a really solid defensive display as Liverpool secured the final 2-goal lead in the 92nd minute.
However, the match was not without a controversial moment. During the game, footage clearly showed that a fan in the stadium pointed a laser pointer at goalkeeper Moris’ face.
in addition, the 33-year-old keeper also gesticulated towards the referees about the awkward moment.
Liverpool are unlikely to come out of the whole incident with a “blank”. The FA Commission should come up with a fine, similar to what happened at EURU 2020 played a year later.
At the European Championships, similar images were seen in the semi-final duel between England and Denmark. The target of the green lasers then was the burly goalkeeper Casper Schmeichel at the penalty flap.
Liverpool scored another victory in the final constellation and now leads the Group E table ahead of second-placed Toulouse. Royal Union SG occupies the 3rd place with a provisional gain of 1 point.
Coach Blessin’s charges won it at home against their French opponents. Austrian LASK remains without a point.
