Europa League? More like the Sevilla League. The Spanish side once again dominated the second most prestigious club competition and with seven trophies broke the record also held by a team from Andalusia.

It’s incredible how well Sevilla are doing in the Europa League. All the more so when it has struggled this season, spending long months on the relegation places and was still realistically in the relegation playoffs in April.
However, it progressed through the Europa League like a knife through butter. First it knocked out PSV, then Fenerbahce, then it cleared two big hurdles – Manchester United and Juventus – out of the way.
And in the final, they ran into AS Roma with the experienced José Mourinho on the bench. It was clear that one series had to end. Mourinho had in fact won all the finals, but Sevilla had won the Europa League final every time they reached it, six times out of six.
In the end, the first series ended. Sevilla stretched their unbeaten run in the final to seven games and improved their record for the most trophies in the Europa League.
No one has matched its seven titles. In second place are Liverpool, Inter, Juventus and Atlético Madrid, who all have three Europa League trophies.
Moreover, Sevilla didn’t just win another trophy, they also secured the Champions League, which is an even bigger bonus for the club in the final. From the league, it does not look like it will qualify for the cups.
Before the last round, Sevilla is in 11th place and 10 points behind the 6th place that guarantees the Europa League. They are only a point behind the 7th place (Osasuna) but they would have to lose all four clubs ahead of them (Osasuna, Athletic, Girona, Rayo) which is not very likely and Sevilla would have to beat 4th place Real Sociedad to do it.
Plus, if successful, they would only play in the Conference League. This way they will return to the Champions League, where they started the group this season. Plus, it’s another financial boost for a club that hasn’t exactly been in the best financial shape. And last but not least, it will be able to bring in more reinforcements that will make the Champions League sound better than the Conference.
