When the biggest domestic MMA organization Oktagon announced a title fight for the welterweight champion between Karlos Vemola and Aleksandar Ilic, a wave of disdain rose over the quality of the Serbian fighter.
The situation was only emphasized by the fact that “The Joker” did not last even one round with the Czech Terminator at Prague’s Štvanica. After a few exchanges Vémola threw his opponent to the ground and after hard punches forced his Serbian rival to tap out.
Ilic then announced on his Instagram the interesting news that he will be taking on a Russian legend of the sport in a battle in the Russian MMA organization RCC. 38-year-old Alexander Shlemenko had an incredible 74 fights before the fight, of which he won 61.
The Russian former Bellator champion was originally scheduled to fight Magomed Ismailov, but due to his health condition he was unable to take the fight. Serbian Ilic, who signed a one-fight deal with the Russian organization, stepped up on short notice.
Already the staredown on the skyscraper showed that we will definitely see a spectacular show and the fight itself exceeded all expectations. But those who expected an evenly matched battle full of exchanges must have been disappointed.
In fact, the Serbian fighter left no one in doubt that he is a world-class fighter in the main bout of the night. In fact, it took him just 20 seconds to end the current world welterweight number 11.
After the opening warm-up, he sent an incredible knee to his opponent’s head, which has seen many bloody wars, and it became the highlight of the night. A couple of punches on the ground after that were unnecessary as the legendary Shlemenko didn’t know where his head stood.
We shall now see how the Serbian wrestler’s career develops. He has a three-fight contract with Octagon, but the Russian organization will surely want to snag Ilic for more fights.
