Sebastien Haller and his story is one of the most powerful that has swept the sporting world in recent months. He is a 28-year-old striker representing Ivory Coast. He has made a significant splash in the Eredivisie, twice in his career.

He started his adult career in the second French league with Auxerre at the age of 17. From there, he subsequently moved to Utrecht in the Netherlands, where he immediately began to demonstrate offensive skills.

In less than three seasons, he scored 45 times in ninety games. This was noticed by Frankfurt in Germany, where Haller also subsequently moved. Even in the Bundesliga he maintained very solid numbers, scoring 24 goals in 60 games.

The tall forward’s next steps took him to England, where he was taken by West Ham London. In the Premier League he managed to open the net ten times. After two years, he decided to return to the Netherlands, where he had his best years yet.

This time he signed for Ajax and the commitment was definitely worth it! In the 2020/21 season he managed eleven goals in nineteen games. A season later, he even scored an impressive twenty-one goals in 31 league games.

Even more admirable were his numbers in the Champions League in the 2021/22 season. There, Haller managed to score eleven times in eight matches. On 15 September, for example, he blasted Sporting Lisbon with four goals.

This season he earned a transfer to the Bundesliga again. This time, Dortmund reached out to him. Unfortunately, he hasn’t played any competitive matches for them yet. Shortly after the transfer he was diagnosed with cancer, which he bravely fought for over half a year.

Haller played his last competitive match on 3 June last year. On 10 January, after more than six months, he played seventeen minutes in a friendly against Düsseldorf.

On Friday 13 January, Dortmund then challenged Basel, where the returnee played thirty minutes. However, only seven were enough for him to score a hat-trick!

His career was going great before his illness. There’s no one in the football world who wouldn’t wish him a successful comeback. It’s only a friendly, but a hat-trick this quick still carries some weight.
