Scamacca is heading to West Ham! His father and grandfather were arrested, his grandfather even threatened him with a knife, his grandson distanced himself from him
Jesse Lingard was blown away by Nottingham, now it seems West Ham will snap up another offensive player, Gianluca Scamaacca from Sassuolo. The Italian international already strikes the eye as a tough and confident striker, something he clearly inherited from his ancestors. Judge for yourself.
Jesse Lingard was blown away by Nottingham, now it seems West Ham will snap up another offensive player, Gianluca Scamacca from Sassuolo. The Italian international already strikes the eye as a tough and confident striker, something he clearly inherited from his ancestors.
It was May 2021 and Scamaacca was preparing for the knockout stage of the Euros with the Italian U21 national team when, out of the blue, the Italian media started spreading the word that his father had broken into the AS Roma training centre.
His son was working in the youth categories of the Romans, anyway Emiliano Scamaacca ran into the complex wearing the jersey of his current employer (Sassuolo) and broke the windows of four cars in the parking lot. One of them belonged to the Wolves’ sporting director Tiago Pinto. He was arrested for his actions.
On the day exactly six months after Emiliano’s intrusion, Scamaacca’s grandfather Sandro committed the crime. He got drunk in a bar in Rome and held a knife to the throat of one of the customers. He, of course, was arrested.
Scamacca was further disturbed by his relative’s scandal and decided to issue a statement via Instagram. In it, he distances himself from his grandfather and mentions that he only considers his parents and his sister to be his family, as those are the only people he grew up and spent most of his time with.
Now, Scamacca is close to a transfer to West Ham, who are set to pay Sassuolo €35 million. He netted sixteen league goals last season and has also had a peek at the senior national team. He was also at the failed World Cup qualifier in Qatar.
The Hammers would finally expand their very narrow squad a bit. Last year they paid the price for a weak substitutes’ bench, and in the crucial part of the season the players ran out of strength. This year doesn’t look like any big signings either, with only stopper Nayef Aguerd and young midfielder Flynn Downes coming in.
