Sadio Mané has responded to the possibility of a return to England. He hasn’t ruled out strengthening the black account next season
It was supposed to be one of the biggest transfers of last summer. Sadio Mané left Liverpool and, as one of the most feared footballers in England, headed to Bavaria, having strengthened Bayern Munich. But he has not fared as expected there and there is speculation of a move elsewhere.
It was supposed to be one of the biggest transfers of last summer. Sadio Mané left Liverpool and, as one of the most feared footballers in England, headed to Bavaria, having strengthened Bayern Munich. But he has not fared as expected there and there is speculation of a move elsewhere.
A year ago, the Senegalese star and one of the best footballers in the history of the African continent decided to make an unexpected and quite bold move. After six years, he left Liverpool and joined Bayern Munich.
The Bavarian giant needed to fill the hole left by the departure of Robert Lewandowski and it seemed that Sadio Mané, despite his typological difference, could be the one to do it. But it just didn’t quite work out.
Bayern had their work cut out to win the title. Dortmund basically gifted it to him, rather than Bayern actually winning it themselves. In the last round it was decided. All in all, it was an embarrassing season for the Munich side.
And Mané? 38 competitive games, 12 goals, 6 assists. Not bad numbers, but more was expected from a man who has managed to score goal after goal in the Premier League over the last few years. Moreover, there were various disputes in the cabin that the Senegalese himself was supposed to create.
Thus, there was a lot of talk about his departure from Bayern. The media, of course, linked Mané with a return to England. And it seems that the 31-year-old footballer himself would not be fundamentally opposed to such a move.
English politician Martin Callanan, who incidentally is a Newcastle United fan, met Mané during a visit to Senegal. Given the Magpies’ ambitions and financial strength, he was also asked what he would say about a summer transfer towards St. James’ Park.
“Never say never,” was to be the Bayern Munich footballer’s reply. It would be another interesting transfer. Moreover, Mané might not be too expensive for the Magpies. After all, he also came to Munich for 32 million euros. But he is under contract at the club until the summer of 2025.
