Sparta won an important draw in Copenhagen and goes into the home rematch with the peace of mind that any win will be enough. It was one of the biggest games of the player’s career, Lukáš Sadílek even ranks it first.

When Sparta won the championship, they naturally dreamed of the Champions League group. Later on, they found out that they would be in the third preliminary round, which gave them the certainty of at least the Europa Conference League.

Her opponent was Copenhagen, one of the strongest possible teams in the pool. Sparta played on Danish soil for the first time and played what it was supposed to. They defended responsibly and didn’t go anywhere.

Even with the help of a lot of luck, they took a nice 0:0 draw to Prague, which gives a good hope for the rematch. How difficult was the match for the players?

“Very tough. I think we got a bit more defensive than we wanted. Maybe sometimes we could have held the ball a little bit more. Especially in the first half we played very well in the back. I think they only had one chance there.

Towards the end, Peter grabbed two fantastic chances. That helped us a lot. I think in the first half we also had two chances there where we could have gone in front. It was a shame. But I think we’ll take the draw and I hope we’ll decide at home,” Lukáš Sadílek told the club website.

For many players, this game was one of the biggest in their careers. Jan Mejdr came from Hradec Králové a year ago, Sadílek from Slovácko. Where does the central midfielder rank?

“Probably the highest. I’ve never played a game this big. The Champions League is the most a player can experience. For me it was the hardest match of my career,” he added.

The rematch at Letná is next Tuesday, but in the meantime Sparta will also play in the league, playing in Jablonec on Saturday, where they will enjoy the new turf that has been under construction since the end of last season.
