Cristiano Ronaldo has once again made his mark in the scoring stats and confirmed his great form this season. However, he also provided a curious moment in the Al-Nassr match when he brought down the cameraman with his free kick.
Ronaldo contributed another goal to Al-Nassr’s important victory
Another game and another goal! Even at the age of thirty-eight, he hasn’t lost his appetite for scoring goals and confirms this season’s insane statistics. But he also prepared a curious moment for the fans in the next round of the Saudi Pro League.
After a bungled start to the new league season, Al-Nassr is breathing a sigh of relief. Neither Benzema’s Al-Ittihad nor Neymar’s Al-Hilal had faltered in the sixth round of the Saudi Pro League, so Ronaldo’s team could not let the train get away.
After two losses, Al-Nassr managed to win three in a row and added another win in Saturday’s match on Al-Raed soil. But the victory was certainly not easy to come by, especially in the first half.
Only the very end of the first act brought the denouement to what had been an evenly-matched match. On the edge of the big whitewash, Sadio Mané was beautifully released and opened the scoring with a beautiful shot. It was the Senegalese forward’s sixth goal in six league games.
The match was then significantly affected by a red card in stoppage time of the first half. After the change of sides, the home team put up much less resistance. It took only four minutes for substitute Talisca to increase the lead by two goals.
Twelve minutes before the end, it was Cristiano Ronaldo’s turn to make a great save in the opposition’s penalty area and he added his thirteenth goal of the season with his left foot. Adding five assists, in twelve games, this is a truly great achievement by the Portuguese star.
Even the home side’s reducing goal at the very end of normal time made no difference to Al-Nassr’s victory. The Riyadh giant club thus notched up their fourth win in a row and are climbing the table towards the upper echelons of the Saudi Pro League.
The Portuguese star also provided a curious moment
There was also a curious moment in the match, which Cristiano Ronaldo was in charge of. His free-kick from just outside the box actually whizzed past the top corner of the goal and the ball hit the cameraman standing behind the goal squarely on the head.
The unusual situation immediately went viral on social media and was seen by nearly half a million people on ESPN’s Twitter account within an hour. Let’s hope the cameraman is okay after the hard hit.
