Cristiano Ronaldo is used to winning trophies. After all, he went to Saudi Arabia with this goal in mind and with his arrival, a literal football fever followed in the country.
A huge number of players have followed suit, but Ronaldo has yet to lift a trophy over his head during his year-and-a-half-long engagement. His last attempt came during Friday night.
Al Nassr took on rivals Al Hilal in the cup final, which robbed them of the league title. It was clear that we were in for a big battle, with neither team taking anything for free.
Aleksandar Mitrovic gave Al Hilal the lead as early as the 7th minute, so it was Ronaldo and co. However, a complication came in the 56th minute when Al Nassr goalkeeper David Ospina was sent off.
We also saw a sending off at the other end, when Ali Al Bulayhi went to the showers early in the 87th minute after a headbutt and was followed three minutes later by teammate Kalidou Koulibaly after a second yellow card.
But in between those incidents came the equaliser, which was taken care of by Ayman Yahya. The match then came down to penalty kicks, where Al Hilal was the luckier side.
Ronaldo in tears
After the defeat, the TV cameras focused on Ronaldo, who took another defeat to a rival really hard. He left the pitch in tears and the fans could tell that he really cared about the trophy.
