Ronaldo deprived Juventus of his DNA, claims Buffon. How did the legendary goalkeeper explain his claim?
Even during Cristiano Ronaldo’s time at Juventus, there were opinions that the Portuguese was the reason why the Italian hegemon was not doing so well. Now, the legendary Gianlugi Buffon has expressed a similar thought.
Even during Cristiano Ronaldo’s time at Juventus, there were opinions that the Portuguese was the reason why the Italian hegemon was not doing so well. Now, the legendary Gianlugi Buffon has expressed a similar thought.
Gianlugi Buffon is a legend not only of Juventus but of world football. However, he has dedicated the vast majority of his career to the Turin club, so few can question his views on what is happening at the club.
Although the Italian goalkeeper was a player for French side PSG at the time Cristiano Ronaldo joined the club, he still spent two seasons with the Portuguese in a Bianconeri jersey.
Before Ronaldo arrived, Juventus were dominant throughout Italy. What’s more, it reached the final of the Champions League. It was the Portuguese who was supposed to be the one to lead the Old Lady to victory in the most prestigious competition.
But the opposite happened. The club was losing its dominance in Italy and it was no better in Europe.
“Juventus had a chance to win the Champions League in the first year Ronaldo arrived. I was at PSG then and I didn’t understand why it didn’t happen. But when I came back, I spent two years in the cabin with Ronaldo. Wedid well, but I think Juventus lost its DNA,” Buffon told TUDN.
“Juventus stood out because it was a team. In 2017 they reached the Champions League final because they were a team full of experience, but above all they stuck together, one played for the other, in short they were one unit. With Ronaldo, we lost that,” the Italian goalkeeper added.
However, the Turin team is not doing well even after Ronaldo’s departure. It looks like it will take some time for them to recover from the loss of their dominance. In addition, possible transfer fraud is being addressed.
