Ronaldo can relax! US court dismisses appeal of rape charge
Cristiano Ronaldo has dealt with one unpleasant case in recent years. An American woman, Kathryn Myorga, said he raped her 14 years ago and only today the whole case is over. And the one satisfied in the case is now clearly the Portuguese.
Cristiano Ronaldo has dealt with one unpleasant case in recent years. American Kathryn Myorga said he raped her 14 years ago and only today the whole case is over. And the one satisfied in the case is now clearly the Portuguese.
The beginning of the case
Twenty-four-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo has been accused of sexually assaulting American Kathryn Mayorga at a Las Vegas hotel.
The Portuguese footballer has steadfastly maintained that it was a consensual act and he did not force the woman to do anything. However, to prevent the situation from escalating further, he and his lawyers decided to donate money to the woman.
He paid Mayorga over 7.5 million crowns for her silence. Everything calmed down, but in 2017 a change came. In 2017, information from the case was leaked by Football Leaks.
Mayorga decided she wanted more money. She asked for 25 million dollars, which is currently 562 million crowns.
The reasons were said to be defamation, coercion and breach of an earlier contract. However, US judge Jeniffe Dorsey rejected this request last year. So there was an appeal, which brings us up to the present day.
Present
The appeals court did not grant the American’s request, so Ronaldo can finally breathe a sigh of relief and will not be prosecuted.
However, the problem is Mayorga’s lawyer, who received a hefty fine. It is therefore almost certain that the case is on ice and finally closed after 14 years.
