Ronaldo after breaking another shooting record: I want more!
Cristiano Ronaldo may not be in the 30-man Ballon d’Or nomination for the first time since 2004, but he is still scoring goals. After surpassing another historic milestone when he scored his 850th career goal, he is looking to push that milestone even further.
Cristiano Ronaldo may not be in the 30-man Ballon d’Or nomination for the first time since 2004, but he is still scoring goals. After surpassing another historic milestone when he scored his 850th career goal, he is looking to push that milestone even further.
Ronaldo has been in Saudi Arabia for almost a year now, having scored 20 goals in 24 games for Al-Nassr so far and assisted 7 more. He has been firing brilliantly especially in recent games, scoring 6 goals in 3 league duels and setting up 4 more for his teammates.
Despite his departure from Europe, coach Roberto Martínez has not forgotten him and has invited him to the national team meeting, during which the Portuguese will play Slovakia on Friday and Luxembourg on Monday.
It is the duel with the Slovaks that will be crucial as Ronaldo and co. are top of Group J with 12 points so far, with their opponents on Friday just two points behind them.
So far, the Portuguese have not lost a point and have not even scored once. On the contrary, they have scored a total of 14 goals and then Ronaldo himself could make 5 notches on his arm.
He recently broke the 850 goals scored mark for club and national team thanks to his goalscoring form, but he is far from thinking that this number is going to move significantly.
“850 goals is a historic achievement. It was a surprise for me, I never thought I would score so many goals. But I want more. I want to be at the top, I want to think big,” Ronaldo told Marca.
“As long as I play, I want to set the bar very high, I have to think big. I really want to win these two games. If we win, we practically qualify. I want to keep going because I feel good and useful, but anything can happen,” he concluded his outlook for the Euro 2024 qualifiers.
Given that Ronaldo will be 39 years old by the time of the European Championship, it is quite possible that this will be the last major tournament he will see with the Portugal national team.
