Roberto Carlos made his debut in the Amateur League as the competition’s top prize
Legendary Real Madrid and Brazil national team full-back Roberto Carlos last started a competitive match in 2015 before hanging up his cleats. The player with the unforgettable left-footed shot won a number of major trophies during his prolific career. Among other things, he won the millionaire Champions League three times with Real Madrid and won the World Cup with the national team in 2002.
Although the player is already retired from football, he played a game in the amateur league in the British Isles on Friday. His team, Bull in the Barne, acquired the Brazilian legend for one match as part of a ‘Dream Transfer’ competition announced on eBay.
In the match, he scored a goal from a penalty kick
The Brazilian’s appearance was arranged for a friendly against Harlescott Rangers and it was a truly memorable day for the home side. Although the 48-year-old started the game on the bench, he eventually scored a goal from a penalty kick. Unfortunately, the goal did not help his new teammates and the opponents enjoyed a 4:3 victory.
He gave a nice interview after the game
“I also come from a small town background, so I liked the atmosphere today,” Carlos told Goal after the match. “It’s just amazing that football gives you these opportunities to meet new people, new cultures, different places,” the Brazilian, who now works as an ambassador for his former employer Real Madrid, enjoyed.
The friendly match had a charitable overtone, taking place under the auspices of Football Beyond Borders, which is working to alleviate the effects of the coronavirus pandemic in youth football. “Whenever there is a charitable element involved, it is very important to me. What Football Beyond Borders does is fantastic,” enjoyed Carlos’ character of the match.
Carlos delighted the home players with a video call with Ramos straight from the pub
For the home players, of course, playing alongside the legendary midfielder was an amazing experience. Even more so when the Brazilian celebrated the day with them in the club’s pub by tasting local beer. He also prepared a surprise for his teammates when he called another Real Madrid legend, Sergio Ramos, directly from the bar.
