Football
Reflection: Why is football the most popular sport in the world?
The football public and fans have loved, love and will love the phenomenon called football. What is it? Football has to be felt, experienced. These almost fanatical sounding words are often misunderstood in Czech society.
The football public and fans have loved, love and will love the phenomenon called football. What is it? Football has to be felt, experienced. These almost fanatical sounding words are often misunderstood in Czech society. In our country, unfortunately, football is sometimes looked down upon, even for logically understandable reasons. Even though the sport has its flaws, it is still the most popular in the world. Why is this so?
Football is completely original in several factors. The absolutely key thing that sets it apart from its sporting competitors is the fact that it is the only one (outside of the football branch) that is played using your feet.
However, the entire existence of mankind evolves and has evolved by means of the hands. Other ball sports and even the vast majority of other human activities are almost exclusively performed with the hands in some way.
Humans have naturally more dexterous upper limbs, and football certainly goes against the tide. Developing the fitness and feel for the ball with the feet is a bit of a challenge for humans, but also extremely fun for the reason that it doesn’t come naturally in the beginning.
Another thing that makes soccer unique is its global accessibility and the ability to play it pretty much anywhere without expensive equipment. All you need is one round thing and a wall, at best a round thing with a bunch of friends. You can build goals out of shoes, sticks, stones and the game can begin.
Tradition, environmental influence and atmosphere. Football romantics love the feel of stadiums, the history of their beloved clubs and then the match atmosphere.
The uninitiated public, who see football once a year and still on TV, usually complain that it’s slow, that nothing happens. But it has happened to probably every true football fan that taking a non-football fan to a full stadium suddenly took on a whole new dimension for the visitor. The feel of the football and the stadium simply has to be experienced.
The two keys that make football the most popular sport in the world bear the names:
and anyone can play with anyone.
In football, a goal is a completely unique affair that often has to be waited for and the spectator has to be fortified with considerable patience for the special moment.
Unlike other sports where points are scored or goals are scored, football is a sport of patience and the spectators experience the joy of the goal all the more. Can you imagine if every basket was celebrated in basketball as much as in football? Probably not.
The saying anyone can play with anyone is absolutely true. Thanks to the nature of football, where luck sometimes plays a big role, spectators can expect unexpected results and twists. People love stories, people love David and Goliath fights. Just think of the incredible comebacks or the moments when a football midget torments a giant.
Football has its flaws, but only because of the people. This ball sport has earned its global supremacy quite deservedly because it is unique. Let’s hope humanity never lets this most popular sport in the world take it away.
