His participation here has been the focus of the last few weeks in the tennis world. Rafael Nadal has directed all his efforts towards a dignified farewell at Roland Garros. Fate has dealt him a major setback in the first round at a tournament where he has achieved so much.

Nadal at the French Open

Rafael Nadal has taken a long time to physically get himself together. His expected comeback was constantly postponed, but the Spanish legend finally made it. He played a decent match.

And his participation in recent ATP tournaments has certainly not been token. The Spaniard was improving and made tennis fans happy by deciding to participate in Roland Garros.

He is a legend in Paris. He managed to dominate his beloved Grand Slam fourteen times . The last time he was here was two years ago. The first time was seventeen years earlier.

The 37-year-old has won more titles at Roland Garros than at all the other Grand Slams combined. He’s the number one pick here again this year.

A cruel lottery ticket

Due to the small number of tournaments played and points accumulated, Nadal is only in the third hundred of the ATP rankings. He is therefore far from being a seeded player.

This brings quite a stir to the draw of all tournaments. And this fact was on full display this year at the French Open.

Nadal will face the top four seeded German Zverev right from the start. But the quality of this opponent is not the only interesting thing about the situation.

After all, Zverev and Nadal played a memorable semifinal in Paris two years ago, which ended prematurely with a serious injury to Zverev.

The question was whether the lanky German would return to the top. Now he has done so, and will once again face the Spanish legend in a place that has meant so much to the careers of both tennis players. The most watched match of at least the first round of Roland Garros is decided.
